W BEACH Style hen asked to write a piece on design and re- model, it sounded like a good idea at the time since I fan- cy myself as quite the undercover decorator and stylist. Through the years I have loved watching all the color and all the style and especially being a realtor and falling in love with oh... at least 10 homes per day. Today I want to invite you to discover some of the trends and styles that are com- ing our way. Some tried and true and feel-good colors such as blue and long lost shades and unexpected come back col- ors such as Sherwin Williams romance. Let's say blush lest we think it is our old friend coral. It is not surprising that the industrial look is still a home- town fave but at the beach, it gets softened around the edges because who wants to have what we have at home at our beach home. Wide-open spaces with the living area, din- ing, and kitchen in one big space with bright airy, breezy and texture, lots of texture. Zigzags are back as well and thrown together with bold patterns. If the colors can be bold the flooring has taken a turn back to nature with bamboo and other natural woods. What is going out and I am a little sad to say is our whitewashed look. Our flooring is more of the wood and earthy tone giving more contrast with the whites and blues and even pops of watermelon and blush. Floors are important for function and design and if need be instead of ripping them out which of course is rarely fun try refinishing and get the more trending and functional look that you want. The star of the home this year is ......... Kitchens. Don’t we all like to gather in the kitchen and hang out and talk and watch someone cook!!!! I know some of you may be the ones that like to do the cooking and when you do, you will see lots of black appliances being all the rage. Big counters, lots of space for seating and clean lines, and some vintage pop. Word on the street is that Aqua will debut as the color of the year 2021 and that tickles me because I have long since used aqua as a neutral in my home. Just name a color that does not pair well with aqua, it is hard to do. And Aqua seems to continue the emotional wellbeing and joy that you have with your family at the beach so that makes it a perfect choice. White is making a comeback too but with pops of color and don’t be afraid to throw in some watermelon splash seeds and all.. 8 850BuildingGroup.com Everyone loves watermelon in the summer and when at the beach... do as the beach folks do.
