LA ESCUELITA EDUCATION CENTER
CASE STUDY NO. 13
   Renewable On-Site Energy Supply
In the mid-design phase, when the goal of the project was to achieve ZNE performance for the entire project, the initial proposal was to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on building roofs and on canopies above the parking lots. That amounted to 385 kW on the buildings and 190 kW on the canopy structures. Later in the project, the District determined that there was interest in expansion of the educational facilities at the site. The canopy structures were seen as not com- patible with that possibility, so that PV array was removed from the scope of the project.
Eventually, the PV system was built in conjunction with the two phases and consists of 385 kW total installed on the roofs of the buildings. The installation consists of 1,200 Sunpower E19 panels (rated at 318 watts DC per panel). Total production for a one-year period during 2016-17 was 460,000 kWh or 460 MWh.
