Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid)
Vitamin C is an essential water-soluble vitamin which cannot be manufactured by the human body. Vitamin C acts as an anti-oxidant which protect biomolecules such
as proteins, lipids and nucleotides from oxidative damage and dysfunction. Vitamin C is well known to protect against infectious disease by stimulating the activity of antibodies and immunes system cells such as phagocytes and neutrophillis. Vitamin C supplementation is also known to support respiratory defence mechanisms, preventing viral infections, and reducing their duration and severity. Vitamin C also have anti-histamine properties which can improve flu-like symptoms.1,2
Zinc
Zinc is an essential trace mineral, involved in many biological processes including immunity. It plays a fundamental role in both the innate and acquired responses to viral infections. The immune system is very dependant on a steady supply of zinc. A daily intake of zinc is required to maintain a steady state because the body has no specialized zinc storage system.2,3
