TOUCHPOINTS
Patients shed microorganisms into the healthcare environment, particularly if they are coughing, sneezing or have diarrhoea. Bacteria and viruses may survive for weeks or months on dry surfaces.
In the environment of the patient the space around a patient may be touched not only by the patient, but also by the healthcare provider when providing care, by visitors and by the cleaner when cleaning the room.
