Part of the day-to-day activities at the Compa- ny is maintaining a healthy and safe environ- ment in all operations.
That is why health and safety results are key indicators for safe management of operations, which requires periodic assessment and moni- toring of work conditions.
Therefore, a strict management system for oc- cupational health and safety standards is in place at all units. In Brazil, for example, there are the Regulatory Standards – NR09: Environ- mental Risk Prevention Program; NR10: Elec- trical Systems Safety; NR12: Machinery and Equipment; NR13: Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety; NR16: Hazardous Work (Risk of Ex- plosion); NR17: Ergonomics; NR33: Confined Spaces; NR35: Working at Height; and NR 36: Work in Meatpacking Plants.
It is our desire that all employees adopt safe- ty behaviors and work practices, to ensure this we conduct safety training and hold educa- tional campaigns throughout the year. These commitments are elaborated in our Health and Safety, Environmental, Food Safety, and Social Responsibility Policy at Minerva Foods.
The Internal Committee for Accident Preven- tion (Comissão Interna de Prevenção de Ac- identes – Cipa) is maintained at all units op- erating in Brazil. The Commission is made up of by direct elected employee representatives and by appointed employer representatives.
Cipa members meet regularly and promote specific events such as the Occupational Acci- dent Prevention Week (or Sipat, its acronym in Portuguese), which is held in conjunction with SGI Week and includes presentations, training, medical assessments, fun activities and more. All employees are represented by formal health and safety committees made up of workers who help to monitor and advise on occupational health and safety programs. 403-1
Worker health and safety is also expressed in collective bargaining agreements signed with trade union organizations. Minerva Foods strives to comply with and follow legally estab- lished safety standards, implementing collec- tive and individual measures, such as training and provision of Personal Protective Equip- ment (PPE), in an effort to guarantee a safe and healthy workplace and prevent the occurrence of job related accidents/illnesses.
See the GRI Appendix for health and safety indicators and related topics covered
