aending a mind expansion course, he was instructed to close his eyes and imagine being in an elevator. When the door opened, he would meet his teacher.
Phil was skeptical, but waited with eyes closed. To his surprise, the elevator door opened and there stood Sai Baba in his orange robe and crown of hair. The experience was startlingly vivid.
Phil was in total shock. Coming from a Jewish background and just beginning to investigate spirituality, he wondered, “Who was this unusual looking man appearing with such brilliance?” His eyes popped open in dismay and looked around the room for reassurance. Everyone was siing with eyes closed. He closed his eyes and again there was Swami, smiling at him.
In his mind’s eye, Phil saw himself siing at Swami’s feet. Swami, without words, showed Phil periods from his past when he had an option of behaving differently. Instead of expressing selfish emotional reactions, Phil had the choice of surrendering to God and releasing ego-based reactions into God’s love. When free of selfishness, Phil could act appropriately in the moment. The experience was extremely real and deeply moving; Phil thanked the instructor for giving him such a potent technique.
Then, to Phil’s surprise, every time he closed his eyes, even when he blinked, he saw Sai Baba. From that point on Phil spent most of his time meditating. No maer what his intention, as soon as he closed his eyes there was Sai Baba. At times Swami would be seated on a throne with Phil at his feet. Sometimes Swami would take Phil through various worlds and dimensions by moving upward through space with Phil following. To his surprise, Phil had 360-degree vision and could clearly see the city disappearing below him.
Swami showed Phil different stars and barely visible life forms that seemingly sparkled with light. As Phil traveled to these higher dimensions, he lost his sense of body awareness and felt himself merge into a vast void, beyond space and
