family dog, Wooly Bear. He was playful and happy, telling us what we already knew, that our dog was very special and had a deep but non-threatening bark. Suddenly, he stopped talking, puffed out his cheeks and woofed a deep bark, sounding exactly like our Wooly Bear, and turned us into giggles.
On another occasion, Sai Baba took a previously materialized ring off Sam’s finger, held it between two fingers, blew on it very slowly so that we could all see clearly, and changed it into a beautiful diamond, a “die mind” as he calls it. We saw the miraculous change at very close range and were stunned; I literally gasped at this miracle. Baba looked over and asked, “A lile jealousy?” “Oh, no, Baba, I’m so happy,” I exclaimed. He responded teasingly, as if reading my mind, “Oh, happy jealousy!”
These stories are but a few precious moments with Sai Baba, who brought a profound love of God into our lives and inspired us all to express this love in action.
Special Assignment
In a family interview in 1980, I blurted out, “Baba, can I do more?” Sai Baba is always serving others, and I too, wanted to serve. He answered, “Yes. I will give you the power, the strength, and the blessings.” Many years later, I again asked, “Is there more that I can do?” Again he answered, “Later, aer the children are grown, I’ll give you very good work.” What did he mean by “good” work? Did he mean “special” work? I pondered this question and was sure that I would have a special assignment.
Several years later, I again asked Baba, “Is there good work for me?” He answered, “Yes, for you, now, home and family.” My heart sank. I was always working with the home and family, so that couldn’t be my assignment! As if reading my thoughts, Baba added, “All work is good work when it is offered to God.” In other words, forget about grandiose projects; the simplest act done with love is enough. The family is an excellent place to start.
