Prof. Noam Sobel focuses on the brain mechanisms of the human olfactory system. Among other discoveries, he recently used the Institute’s powerful 7-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging system to show that the ability to smell is possible even in the absence of an olfactory bulb.
Dr. Ivo Spiegel recently discovered that a rare type of neuron located in the outermost layer of the brain is a key regulator of how brain cells change in response to experience. These neurons contain
a number of genes associated with schizophrenia.
