Behind the police car, still wearing his Bomber jacket and jewellery, was the foxy-faced boy who had caused such disruption at the school dance. He was clinging to the hand of a very miserable looking woman.
The scene on the T.V. changed ... they watched as a man walked through a deserted park and sat down on a park bench. The man’s face was blurred. The voice-over announced, ‘There has been an interesting development in this case. Film footage of a pecuniary-transaction between two men has been sent anonymously to both the police and the media. What you are now seeing is a sample of this footage. It has been digitally masked to preserve the privacy of the individuals.’
They all watched as the figure on the screen accepted the envelope from another faceless man, checked the money and hid it in his newspaper. The room full of people hardly breathed as they watched the film. As it ended and a new item began, everyone started talking.
Saffron quietly rose and switched off the television. She suddenly felt very thirsty. Now I know what Mobo's been up to, she mused, but she didn't say a word to anyone.
‘Do you know who did that photography?’ Patrick asked Angie. ‘The quality’s great, but the angles are really strange. It looks like someone was perched right up in a tree with their camera.’
