‘Good morning Saffron,’ called Zinta Stevens as she legged her small son up onto Pumpkin the pony. Only Saffron’s good friends called her Ronnie.
She hated the exotic, ridiculous name her hippy parents had given her as much as her brother hated his formal name, Charles. The kids at school used to tease him and call him ‘Prince’. In their family they rarely used anything but nicknames with each other.
‘Hello, Mrs Stevens,’ she replied. ‘Have you heard about the council
rezoning?
What can we do to stop
