whats in your studio?
B-liv is a Colombian House Music DJ & Producer, based in Mexico. Owner of 'My Own Beat records' & 'Molacacho Records', and a high believer in the power of underground House music.
He started his career more than 18 years ago in Colombia, living now in México City for almost 10 years where he has successfully consolidated an international career.
His tracks has been supported by Todd Terry, Stanny Abram, Joeski, The Deepshakerz, J Paul Getto, Steve Mac, Michael Grey, SoulAvengers, Richard Earnshaw, Laurent Garnier, Demarkus Lewis, Roland Bartha, Roland Clark, Bass Monkeys, My Digital Enemy, Tocadisco, 2GoodSouls, Dantiez Saunderson, Armand Pena, Sonny Wharton, and more.
How did it all get started for you?
I have always loved music, my passion for this amazing art started when I was very young. I started making mixed tapes in Boombox (tape machines) and working with analog equipment. When I was young I worked in Radio that was an amazing experience and my best university. Here I learned to use ProTools, software that I have used for more than 15 years.
Who are your favorite producers or DJ's and who would you love to be in a studio with?
One of my personal icons, which whom I always wanted to collaborate is Eddie Amador .
I am so proud to announce that last August we recorded a collaboration ¨House Evolution¨. With this track my own label My Own Beat Records was launched. I also admire Roland Clark and Harry Romero, it would be amazing to
work with them soon.
With a few hits under your belt and still out and about doing your thing, where are you now and where do you see yourself over the next few years?
I feel in this moment of my life I am in a very interesting moment of my musical career .
My sound is mature and my musical decisions are very clear and focused in what I want and works for me.
I am spending huge amounts of time in my studio, enjoying each second of it and I can see and feel clear consequences as a result. If I think in my future I imagine myself producing, playing actively internationally and working by the hand with good booking agencies.
What’s your favorite toy?
In the studio I love my analogue gear, love tweeking and feeling the sound in such a sexy way. In my computer I use Sylenth and other virtual sinths, the combination of both worlds (virtual and analogue) open unlimited possibilities. When I play live I am using a Slaperoo, instrument created by a friend Andy Graham, so much fun. I also use some old effects like the Air Effect of Alesis.
and vocals and other instruments.
Any tips for sending demos?
As an A&R the problem that I find more often in the tracks I receive is that the musical structure doesn´t work as it should. Great tracks have a good intro, good development, a great climax and a steady outro. If you are making DJ, or Dance music you have to understand how this music works when it´s being mixed. Also.. Please.. Mastered tracks in private links without "cc" in the mails.

Do you see yourself incorporating live producing into sets?
Actually I already combine live productions in my sets, it´s just great to combine live instruments with self created loops, generates a complete different experience. In some of my presentations I am inviting special guests that play drums
