This bright and promising young songbird kindly agreed to share upon her story to us when I briefly met her at the Goodgreef and TranceArmy event two short weeks ago. She was just as I had imagined her, beautiful, inside and out, so warm and welcoming. A very pleasant few moments were spent exchanging general chit chat and introduction and asked her would she like to work with me on an interview, to which she agreed excitably!
I first cast my ears upon her voice just over a year ago which can only be described as an echoing siren, mesmerizing and enchanting in every respect. Here’s her story.
Tell us about yourself – where you grew up, how did you end up in Ireland and what do you love most about the little island? Plans to stay or go?
I was born and raised in Sweden but I’m actually Danish on paper as my
parents come from there. I decided to move to Ireland as there is a larger music scene here in electronic music and there's
so many opportunities here as well. I wanted to live in a country where I could use and speak the English language. I had
been here once before when I was 16 to do a Christmas concert and years later I remembered how lovely the city was and just took a chance. It was one of my best decisions I have made. I feel very welcome here.
How old were you when you started singing? What's your earliest memories? When did you find your love of trance? When did you get your first big break?
I always knew that I wanted to be a singer, song writer and producer. When I
was around 3-4 years old, I always stood in front of the mirror at home singing and dreaming about singing on a stage one day. I started in a music school when I
was 5 years old. I wrote my own songs in school and always sang on big events in school.
My family and I used to go on vacation every summer to Germany and that's
where I was introduced to trance music. I used to go to the cd store in Muller and buy some cds that you couldn't find in Sweden. We also attended Love Parade in Berlin when I was around 14 years old where I saw the big legends like Tiesto, Carl Cox and many more. But the real love story with trance started when I first heard Delerium - Silence ( Tiesto remix). The song changed my life and I knew that I wanted to make trance music.
I never really had time to think about having a big break in the music industry. I always strive for bigger goals all the time and forget to enjoy it when it happens. Once one goal is met, i want to reach the next. My first release with Ben Nicky called "Tears" was supported by Armin Van
Buuren on A state of trance so I guess that's how I got introduced to the trance scene.
What else/Who else has influenced you along your journey?
Traveling and good days with my family and friends makes me feel inspired. Listening to different kinds of music out and about and on the radio. Artist like Celine Dion, Sarah McLachlan, Tiesto, Röyksopp and Above & Beyond have inspired me.
Have you done any live gigs? If not, is this a possibility for the future? What's your most memorable moment/moments? What are you most proud of?
I ‘I’ve done loads of them. I ‘I’ve sang at concerts all around the world, all the time. From Europe and Asia to Africa. Next gig is in December on Monday Bar which is a big boat cruise that sails between Sweden and Finland. Next step is to go over to America for touring. There are two gigs I’m very proud of. First one is a gig I
had in Cairo Egypt, where I performed in front of 30,000 people. I didn't expect anything and when I stepped on the stage, it was a real shock for me. Everyone was singing along to all the songs and after the gig me and Alex M.O.R.P.H took a drive into the darkest streets of Cairo to have one of the best kebabs of my life. I will never forget it and the trance family in Egypt are so supportive and loving. The other gig I’m very proud of was the gig I
had at Ministry of Sound together with Markus Schulz. Ministry has been one of my favourite clubs for years and it was a great honour to be there with my dearest and my closest friends to support me and play on the main stage in the box. It is one of my favourite gigs i have done so far, although 3 of 4 cdjs stopped working during set.
Tell us a little about who you have worked with. Details of work history, collaborations etc.
Vocal and song writing wise, I have collaborated with Ben Nicky, Alex Klingle, Progresia, , Fabio XB, Mat Zo, Paul Van Dyk, Artisan, Local Heroes, Allen & Envy and loads more to come. Production wise,
I’ve been working with Bilal el Aly and Rafael Osmo.
Give me a run down of a typical day in the recording studio. What do you do to prepare leading up to it? How demanding is the job?
I always go with my mood. If i feel like i have inspiration to write vocals, I do that
and if I feel like producing music, I’ll do that. I never have a plan or a set up. I always follow my heart and the mood I am in that day. I have my own music studio in my apartment so I close the door and get in the mode. Sometimes I listen to other music to get inspired. When writing vocals
I mainly come up with a vocal melody
first and just sing along with whatever
words that come out. When I’m happy
with the melody I start to listen to the
words I sing and see if I can use it for a
story. And then I start creating a little
story of the words that comes to my mind
this or that. It comes by itself. When it comes with production I use to
start with building up the track with kicks, drums, bass-line and then I play around with my synth until I find a melody that I
feel sounds big. I always do the first part of the track and then just follow along with the created melody. Loads of hours, sweat, tears and frustration comes along with making music until I’m fully satisfied with my work.
Djing/Production – Have you dabbled in either? Do you feel any closer to accomplishing your dreams? Where do you want this path to lead? Hopes and dreams for the future?
I sing, write music, produce music and own my own record label Auditory Recordings. I work every day to try to make my dreams come true. It’s what keeps me happy and going. In the future I hope to see my record label having their own brand nights with loads of artist performing. I hope to become better at what I do and if I can make people around the world feel happy when they hear my music then I will be very happy. I always aim to grow as an artist and become better in each new release that I do.
Who would be your dream collaboration and why? Or who would you love to work with?
I would love to get in the studio with the boys from Above & Beyond. I am sure we would be able to create something great together .
Define 'Trance' and everything related in your own words.
Trance music sets your soul free. It doesn't matter where you are from, straight or gay, colour of your skin, how much or how little money you have. Trance brings everyone together as one and that is so beautiful. For a moment you forget all your problems in life and you feel like you are free.
