Stunning, bright, vivacious, dynamic and extremely talented are what people are using to describe this up and coming capable artist. From a young age Lisa performed in many theatrical shows in her local city Newcastle Upon Tyne in the United kingdom. After taking a break from the stage to focus on her corporate career she felt it was time to focus on what she truly loves and moves her soul. After growing up and listening to dance / house music she knew this was the route to take.
Lisa took some time out of her busy schedule to hit us up at Zone magazine for a lil chat...
Lisa how did it all start, what attracted you to the Dance music scene, and in particular house?
I have always loved dance and house music right back to the early nineties. This is when I truly fell in love with Dance music as a whole. I started around 3 years ago in terms of really making a go at the dance music scene. As a singer, I began singing at a young age. I crossed paths with Eddie Gordon from Kings of Spins promo as I was looking for an outlet for my earlier work. Eddie offered guidance and advice going forward and became my mentor. This pretty much spring boarded
scene to which I’m very grateful to him. Working closely with Gary Dedman from the Hoxton Whores has also hugely helped me develop as a House artist we creatively bounce ideas back and forth and have some absolute classic house tracks on the Horizon.
You are gaining quite a following over the last few years, why do you think this is?
I think that this is the result of a number of things. I would say it is from working with great producers around the globe, the right people looking over my shoulder and the record labels doing such great work with the releases. It makes me happy to know that people are enjoying the Music.
You have written and produced a great number of tracks, which one stands out the most and why?
I think that the one that stands out the most is the latest release on Carrillo Music, “JUNK.” It’s a big thing for me as it’s a solo Release. I have done a few features over the last year so this was kind of daunting the idea of going solo. Rod Carrillo backed me 100% with his production and pulled in a superb set of remixes from The Hoxton Whores, The Guru Project, Lizzie Curious and Kissy Sell Out. I’m excited to see what unfolds over the coming months with this project.
Which came first singing or Producing?
Singing came first. Writing and Singing will always be at the forefront for me. I enjoy exploring in the studio as a producer as well. I wouldn’t quite say I was a polished producer but I do enjoy getting in the studio and exploring ideas.
Who would you love to work with in the studio and what’s studios do you produce your tracks in?? I worked in various studios over the past 3 years and during that time, I found a home at Broadwater Studios In my hometown. The environment is just right for me there. It has a great atmosphere and I find myself my most creative when working with the guys there. I really don’t
have a preference of whom I would like to work with in the future. If I get sent a demo and I like it, then I will have a run at the track.
What drives you?
Seeing other People’s happiness really, to know that people have danced to your song or created a memory around it, there is nothing that drives me more than this feeling.
Love or hate it EDM is here to stay for a while at least, is this the corporate takeover of the dance music scene, what are your thoughts on the current state of the electronic music scene industry??
I think it was Eddie Gordon who said: "The two significant letters in EDM are the last two because it's all Dance Music and whatever brings people to the dance floor where they can feel free to express themselves with their friends, that's what really matters, the sounds themselves will inevitably change with new ideas constantly evolving"
As we know music reaches out to us in many ways, it creates atmosphere, mood, harmony and wellbeing. What would you say is the essence of your sound?
The essence of my sound strives to bring out the positive elements of electronic music to the masses. I approach my projects with a sophisticated view but still make sure they provide a dancing atmosphere for various types of DJs and crowds.
I would like my music to always have a message that touches on various emotions and memories like happiness, recollections, etc.
If you ended up trapped on a god forsaken island with only your mic, a crate of spirits and your iPod to your name, what would be the top 10 essential cuts that you must have to survive and why? ?
I would only need 1 album, “Bob Marley Legend.” I’ve been soothed by his music for over 20 years. Being stranded on an Island for the formidable future, I know I could survive well with Bob Marley’s music to listen to.
What are Lisa’s next big project / collaborations / Album plans for the future?
I have a few tracks lined up with The Guru Project, Hoxton Whores, Kissy Sell out, Dark9nine, Jonathon Ulysses Moggi & DaGeneral and a few top secret ones!
