‘I’m getting good at this agony aunt business’, she said trying to be light hearted, we both laughed then.
‘I’m sorry to have brought my troubles to you, you have enough of your own with Paul and Seki’.
‘Actually, they seem to be getting along much better, Seki is working in the back looking after the bar meals and she seems much happier with that arrangement’.
The following Saturday I asked Rex to come over. As I prepared dinner; roast chicken and fresh vegetables, of course. I didn’t want it to be a romantic dinner we had to have a talk serious, maybe only one glass of wine with dinner. I still didn’t feel right I wasn’t sure if it was the stress of everything or a tummy bug.
Rex arrived at 6. I nervously greeted him with a peck on the cheek in return he gave me an awkward hug. He didn’t notice my look of disappointment or at least he didn’t seem to.
‘What a lovely aroma’, he complimented, ‘I’m starving I skipped lunch to leave early’, he rambled a bit I felt obviously feeling the stress of the evening ahead. I lead him into the kitchen and asked him to sit while I checked the food.
Suddenly he came up behind as I stood at the cooker turned me around and kissed me passionately, ‘I love you now and forever’, he whispered to me.
‘I love you more than life itself darling’, I cried joyfully.
‘I love you, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t upset over you and my father, I wish it never happened. I’m grateful he never made you his wife. You may feel different about it, but I hope we can leave the past behind’, he sobbed.
