I’d also begun to notice that whenever Jenny was working her shift she was very flirty with him and a couple of times I’d seen a look pass between them. A couple of times I had to stop myself before saying something, was I jealous!?!
NO, I internally scolded He was only a child I try to reason with myself.
There was ten years between us but no matter what I told myself there is something about him that pulled at my heart. He made me feel good, happy, purposeful like a teenager again.
Oh, Amber pull yourself together I reprimanded he fancies Jenny and is probably at this moment trying to build up the courage to ask her out.
Trying to take my mind off such silly notions I decided to call the gallery. I had been meaning to for ages now.
I had gotten an appointment for tomorrow to bring in some of my work. It was Wednesday so I was free all day. But as I replaced the receiver I questioned do I really want this?
I continued to question myself that evening as I made my nightly hot chocolate before bed, but my thoughts were interrupted when the phone rang.
‘Hello! Amber? Sorry for calling so late’, a soft voice came from the other end of the phone.
‘Rex? Is everything ok?’, I asked.
‘Yeah everything’s fine, I was just wondering if you could do a shift for me tomorrow night?’
‘Of course, have you heard some news about your father?’, I asked excitedly. ‘No...I...eh...have a date’, he sounded a little uncomfortable, ‘I’m taking Jenny out but we both usually have the same shift it’s awkward to make arrangements’.
