‘Ok! Ok! I called, as I pulled into the petrol station. Rex did the gentlemanly thing and filled up the tank.
‘I need a sugar fix’, Rex informed me as he went to the counter to pay.
‘How many more miles to go’, Penny asked as she took her seat.
‘Can’t say off the top of my head’, I replied looking into the car, ‘but according to the satnav we have at least another couple of hours to go excluding coffee breaks’.
‘We can stop for a meal nearer London’, I suggested, ‘the evening traffic across London will be hectic’.
‘I arranged to meet Mr. Stapleton for dinner tonight at 8’, Rex explained through a mouthful of sweets, ‘I will call him as soon as you drop me at the B&B’.
We reached London late that afternoon and Penny decided to have a wander around the shops as I walked with Rex to the B&B situated on the old Kent road. It was a fairly nice little place, clean enough but a bit musty I noted. Rex signed in and we went up to see his room. He was eager to call Mr. Stapleton and did so while I examined the room a bit more. We talked about how he was feeling finally getting to meet the ‘mysterious Mr. Stapleton’, as he unpacked.
When it was time for me to go I reached up to kiss him farewell. He pulled me close and returned my kiss passionately.
‘I wish you were staying’, he murmured tucking a lose strand of my hair behind my ear, ‘we could have a romantic week on our own, see the sights, go for a moonlight trip on the Thames’, Rex said excitedly.
‘I’ll see you, Friday week’, I smiled, wishing that I could stay too, ‘I will call you after the wedding and we can arrange where to pick you up’.
