Tell us about the owners of Safari Music?
I started the label with friend and fellow producer Hess in 2007. In fact, he encouraged me to be a DJ years ago when I was a musician and producer only. Now I am the sole owner of the label after he moved to California to pursue other opportunities.
What genres do you release, and why?
We are now focusing on House, Tech- House and Techno. We feel this is the next sound in the musical cycles. Safari has always been one step ahead of the pack, we jumped on Melbourne bounce before it was commercialised and major label's jumped in.
What’s your plans for the future?
We plan on continuing the pathway of new sounds within the genre’s above and beyond as they develop and change. We can’t say much right now but we have some other concepts to go with the music releases, that we are working on releasing early 2017.
Do you do events?
We will be doing rooftop parties for Safari-Tech, Safari Music’s sister label very soon.
Tell us about your artists?
We have had many world-wide hit artists on Safari Music. Everyone from Deorro & Uberjakd, to hits like "Show Me Love" sampled by Steve Angello, Laidback Luke and Hardwell to the platinum award winning track "Trumpsta" by Contiez ft Treyy G (Djuro remix). Most of our artist are up and coming and have had the support of Safari's springboard to reach international stardom.
Do you release vinyl?
We haven't, but have recently begun considering it. I personally have a crate full of releases from when I first started producing.
Do you think vinyl is seeing a big comeback?
I think it will have a niche market, but is too impractical to take over the digital technology we are using at present.
What advice would you give to new producers?
Stand out, with a new sound all your own. Don’t try and copy anyone just be yourself. Slapping great vocals on your tracks will make all the difference and it’s key. Make your music different but still relevant enough for it to work on the dance floor.
Any advice on send demos to labels?
Send demos regularly and never give up. Always take the feedback you receive constructively. Only send your best work and if the label does not reply at first that means chances are it’s either not what they are looking for or your production needs work so try try again. If you would like to send demos to Safari Music or Safari- Tech you can email andrew@timelapsemusic.com.
