Yoshi 20TH, Best Of Classic Remixes
Zone Rating - 10/10
Yoshitoshi has been delivering the goods for 20 years now and this album is a real celebration of the label’s vision, not only does it feature remixes of some of their finest musical moments, It comes in mixed and unmixed formats so both DJs and fans win by purchasing this compilation.
In the words of Sharam: “When we set out to celebrate 20 years of Yoshitoshi, little could we have imagined the scope and depth that the Classics campaign would realize. What started as a simple idea soon captured our imaginations, and an incredible journey into both past and future began.”
That journey has certainly delivered the goods and then some. Take ten Yoshitoshi Classics that themselves have been remixed to give them a modern flavour and then mix them all together and the result is this incredible release which really sets the bar at lofty heights!
There are tracks like Nicole Moudaber’s remix of Alcatraz’s anthem ‘Giv Me Luv.’ which was Beatport’s top-selling Techno release of 2015 and 2016 then you have Robosonic, whose rework of Eddie Amador’s ‘House Music’ was so good that they signed them on for two more remixes and, ‘Rise’ is just so good it is the last track of the compilation. Talk about “all killer and no filler.” This compilation is a perfect example of the adage.
Right from the first track, you get the feeling that you are in for something special and this compilation does not disappoint in any way. It’s just pure House and Techno poetry throughout with gems like Victor Ruiz’s remix of PQM’s ‘You Are Sleeping,’ Loco & Jam’s kick ass remix of Chiapet’s ‘Tick Tock' and Sharam’s excellent rework of Kings of Tomorrow’s ‘I Want You (For Myself).’ Sharam goes on to say: “Bringing back classic music is never easy; after all, the classic status is not easily attained.” Well not only does this album bring them back, it does so with grace and panache. Although the originals have been remixed, they have been done so with care and great attention to detail.
If you only buy one compilation this year, this one has to be a strong contender as the quality is quite breathtaking and for that reason I give it a perfect score of 10 out of 10.
