 About Foot Positions
The Line of Direction
The Line of Direction is an imaginary line that goes from the front to the back. It passes between our heels when we are in first position.
Ground Position
(both feet are touching the ground)
Aerial Position
(the working foot is off the ground)
Closed
Rear
Open
Position
Both feet are touching OR the working foot is touching the supporting leg
Position
When the leg and the foot are NOT touching.
Position
The working foot or working leg are behind the supporting foot.
Working Foot
The working foot is the foot that is doing the movements.
SAMPLE
Supporting Foot
This is the foot that is supporting your body. The ball of this foot is in contact with the ground. We should always try to land in the center of the ball of the foot, and make sure that our knee is over our toes.
