The prevalence of obesity was 40.0% among young adults aged 20 to 39 years, 44.8% among middle-aged adults aged 40 to 59 years, and 42.8% among older adults aged 60 and older.
What other groups are at risk?
According to the CDC, other underlying diseases include diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease, cancer or a history of can- cer and non-rheumatoid arthritis.
Smokers are also part of the population at risk.
Conditions such as asthma, sleep apnea, restrictive lung disease, and lung problems related to gastroe- sophageal reflux compromise the basal lung func- tion of obese patients and are likely to put them at increased risk for severe disease with COVID-19.
