José González Fernández, 60, originally from Mexico and who worked in construction, was left without health coverage in late February. He was concerned about getting sick and having no way to pay for medical services, including his high blood pressure medications.

I was at home watching the news when I heard that Covered Ca- lifornia was going to allow people like us to sign up. People who have lost their jobs and insurance”, added José.
