BUSINESS PROFILE - JOHN J BYRNE COMMUNITY CENTER
John J. Byrne Community Center, since its inception over
thirty-four years ago, has been providing the physical
infrastructure for community center services in Uniondale.
Otherwise known as Uniondale Neighborhood Center,
residents tasked the organization to deliver a physically
operational structure where diverse community organizations
may provide programs for children, youth, and families,
emphasizing services for at-risk and underprivileged youth.
The organization, led and operated by a dedicated all-volunteer
board, with the input of many community members despite
facing a myriad of financial and other challenges, over the
years has come a long way, acquiring along its long path, two
properties spanning 1 ½ acre where youth projects and summer
camps, and other civic organizations have thrived to the great
benefit of the Uniondale community.
Today, the organization is on the verge of expanding its
portfolio with a new community center building, made possible
Site of JJBCC Current Location
through a community benefits agreement between the
community and Nassau Health Care Corporation, facilitated
with a housing development by Engel Burman Group at the A
Holly Patterson property at Jerusalem Avenue, a stone's throw
away from their current location.
As is currently under construction, the new community center
building will not accomplish their ultimate goal. However, it
will go a long way in providing a foundation for more
structured community programs and inspiration for future
growth and development. The organization is grateful for the
genuine support over the years from its many community
supporters. They welcome the feedback of community
members; contact them at contactus@byrncenter.org.
