  COLLEGE BOUND GUIDE
Steps to Initiate Your College Hockey Recruiting Process
1. Be an advocate for yourself, it’s never too early to start.
2. Target colleges that you feel you are a candidate for both; academically and athletically.
3. Set up a contact list of 5-7 colleges into three categories; Dream Schools, Reach Schools and Safety Schools (note, these lists will continue to change as you add / delete of schools you become more or
less interested in).
4. Prior to sending out emails, be sure to fill out the recruiting questionnaire on the school’s hockey website which will provide an academic & hockey profile of yourself for the coaches to view.
5. Do your homework on each school and hockey program before contacting them, so you are prepared to talk about their team / school when / if you speak with the coaching staff.
6. Research the team depth chart of the school you are interested in regarding; how many spots are available at your position for the year you are looking to enter college.
7. Personalize your email specifically to each coach and indicate a hook on what you feel your top strength is as a player (i.e. I consider myself a 200’ power forward, that has the ability to play tough and
hard in all 3 zones).
8. Include your upcoming schedule and your current coaches contact information on each email.
9. Keep the lines of communications open with the coaches on a monthly basis.
