Plot versus story
There is a technical difference between plot and story. A story is only setting out facts. For example:
The boy was eight years old He went to the store
He bought an apple
Stories set these points out in chronological order and do little to help us understand the context of those facts.
A plot is similar but with one addition: context. For example:
Gary was only eight years old when he ran off to the store to escape his arguing parents It was 2:30 in the afternoon and he still hadn't had any lunch.
So he bought himself an apple to tide him over.
With this extra context, we can introduce many more colors, emotions and interest. Much of what we are doing with Song Maps is therefore arranging plot ideas rather than simply ordering story facts.
