P. 67

With him gone
I suddenly feel so alone
With him gone
Who's gonna take me back home?
No one should say that they know how you feel When you feel like you'll always be sad
When you lose your dad
Verse 2
Many years on
I'm at church with my Mom
Trying to hold back the tears in my head We knew he was eighty
But thought he was healthy
Now he's healthy in heaven instead
One minute he's here beside me
The next my world's turned upside down
Chorus
Bridge
Like the sky on a moonless night A reflection of heaven is gone And it doesn't feel right
Verse 3
Here in the mirror
I'm trying to figure out Something familiar in me
In the way that I look and I speak Now I'm older it's easy to see
Outro
You never lose your dad You never lose your dad When you lose your dad

Some points I'd make:
1. I wrestled for some time whether to put the payoff ("You never lose your dad") in the Bridge, in a last Verse or an Outro. The decider was when I realized the payoff needed to be built up, which meant that V3 had to come before the payoff. Plus, I was very happy with the way the Bridge came out–as a father of three, I am only too aware of my responsibility to be a role model to them–the reflection of heaven is part of who my father was to me.
