Nancy Koenigsberg
Nancy Koenigsberg’s Ocean (Radical Or-
nament) is a meditation on movement and
endurance, rendered in wire—an industrial
material shaped into an evocation of tides,
currents, and undertow. “Its loosely woven
structure resists closure,” notes Guggen-
heim fellow Christy Anderson, “allowing
light and air to move through its layered
blue surface like water through reef or
net. The work resonates with Rachel Car-
son’s vision of the sea as a deep archive
of time and transformation. In Ocean,
wire becomes wave, and pattern becomes
persistence. The piece positions material
practice as a form of quiet defiance—an
insistence on remembering, marking, and
enduring.”
