Toshio Sekiji
Toshio Sekiji explores the merger of cul-
tures in collage weavings like Vertical to
Horizontal and Vice Versa (Reading Be-
tween the Lines) using repurposed news-
papers, maps, and book pages. New sto-
ries are created atop the old by reading the
strips of papers and the areas he has en-
hanced with lacquer. He intertwines strips
of paper from various cultures, rewriting
messages and imagining a harmonious
confluence of disparate cultures, languag-
es, and nationalities – different than the
facts on the ground.
