Inspired by his partner’s projects that focus on one subject a year with her art and writing, McQueen wanted to try that different way of working. He usually completes a piece in a month, and therefore, chose a project that would require much more time. McQueen began his first leaf for 1000 Leaves in May 2022 and completed his last in February, 2023. The pile of leaves was packed in his studio and reassembled in the gallery. With each in- stallation, the arrangement of leaves will be different.
