Sculptor John McQueen (born 1943) arranges natural materials to make vessels, sculp- tural figures, representational images and text. His bark-covered sculptures and draw- ings made of sticks lead viewers to question their relationship to the world and their view of the natural order of things. His work has been acquired by numerous muse- ums, including, the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York; Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, New York, New York; Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, Hawaii; Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania; Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, Connecticut; Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC; Detroit Institute of Art, Michigan; and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minnesota. He is a recipient of the Gold Medal of the American Craft Council; a Master of the Medi- um Award of the James Renwick Alliance, Smithsonian American Art Museum and a recipient of an, Established Artist Award, Arts Center of the Capitol Region, New York.
