While, in Japan on a US-Japan Creative Artist Fellowship, McQueen saw large books that stood vertically on slightly outspread pages. These books reminded him of sheet music. Within the book-like sculpture, there are Japanese characters (kanji) on each of the four pages, which spell the word “basket.”
