more often than not, the holes are caused by the ravenous larvae of clothing moths.
•Holes in your clothes are often the tell-tale signs of a clothes moth infestation. Moth larvae (above) are the ones that do the most damage.
Fixing the holes is very difficult although people try. Vogue magazine says that Johnsons Dry Cleaners has experienced a rise in demand for invisible repair services to clothes riddled with moth holes.3
Moth eggs are very difficult to see because they’re so tiny but other signs your wardrobe or cupboards have these unwelcome visitors are webbing, cocoons, cases, lots of very small pellets, and even dead moths clumped into the webbing. Their droppings may be the same colour as the fabric they’re feeding on, which will make them hard to see.
• WHAT ATTRACTS THEM?
Moths are drawn to food, sweat and urine stains, and dead skin cells which is why we recommend you never put clothes you’ve worn even once back into your wardrobe.
Instead, you should wash them or send them to be dry-cleaned. This is especially important if you’re about to store Winter clothes for the Summer months.
