“What’s Eating You 2?” Mothmageddon
CHAPTER 5
The Moths Munching On Your Food
The moths that are found in the kitchen eating on grains are known as ‘pantry moths’, although they can be either Indian meal moths or Mediterranean flour moths.
Like other insects, the pantry moths have a life cycle that consists of eggs, larvae, pupa and adulthood.
A full pantry moth life cycle can last anywhere from 30 through to 300 days, depending on the availability of food and the environment. The warmer and moister it is, the faster their life cycle completes.
Moth eggs are tiny (usually between one and two-hundredths of an inch). A female moth can lay 400 eggs at a time and will deposit them straight onto the food source that the larvae will use.
