Alloy C304
The standard “18/8” stainless; it is the most versatile and most widely used stainless steel.
For areas within 50 miles of
the coast, Gemini recommends Alloy 316. This conforms to recommendations by numerous metal industry panels. Use of 304 in coastal areas may experience premature failure.
Alloy 316
The standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to C304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than C304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.

Requires a minimum of .22” stroke and stud mount. Stainless steel letters and logos are produced without a clear polyurethane coating.
Optional Clear Coat (+10%)
To further lengthen the lifespan of stainless steel, a protective clear coat can be added for an additional 10%.
Passivation
When installing stainless in a high moisture or salt water environment, it is recommended that the letters be chemically passivated.
The hard oxide layer created from passivation will help prevent most surface rusting of trapped iron particles.
An environment resistant steel,
created by alloying copper, 10 chromium and nickel. The material
forms its own continuing protective
rust layer, when exposed to
atmospheric elements. Essentially,
the top layer corrodes, which then 16 protects the steel beneath it – hence
Cor-Ten cannot be painted or clear 18 coated, as it will push off most
surface surfactants over time. It is
not recommended for mounting on
any surface that could be stained,
due to the bleeding of this rust
layer. 24
