The designers of of the the Gering Edlen Foyer wanted to to bring a a a view of of the the the world to to students at the the University of of Oregon’s Lundquist College of of Business by using the the ceiling as as backlit canvas During the the the design process the the driving image evolved from a a a a a a a simple geographic map to a a a a a a a a satellite image of the world’s population at at at night Lighting analysis software allowed us us to to parametrically adjust the perforation design to to achieve this performance (below image) The process also helped verify the selection of a a a a a a linear wall-mounted lighting fixture that could be installed in in the limited plenum space 120
