Joining forces on this proj- ect are the King River Con- servancy, Kings River Conser- vation District, Kings River Water Association, California Department of Fish and Wild- life, and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
“The Kings River is an im- portant resource to our com- munity and to be enjoyed by all,” said David Merritt, gen- eral manager, Kings River Conservation District. “Each
user needs to be account- able for its long-term vitality through responsible recre- ational habits.”
Volunteers for the first clean-up day will meet at Kings River Wildlife Area pa- vilion (27709 Pine Flat Rd) and then go to specific areas that need attention. Volunteers will meet at the Winton Park for all subsequent clean-up days. The Center for Disease Con- trol’s COVID-19 guidelines
will be followed, including the recommended social distanc- ing.
“We encourage access for all to enjoy the river, but this means we need to clean-up af- ter those few people who do not yet respect others’ enjoy- ment of the Kings,” said Ver- non Crowder, executive direc- tor, Kings River Conservancy.
One of the goals of the ven- ture is to help the community build respect and pride for
Kings River by keeping the river clean of trash, graffiti, and vandalism.
The idea to move forward with this cleanup program came from one of the fisher- men on the Public Advisory Group for the Kings River Fisheries Management Pro- gram. The summer months especially see heavy use of the river and more work is
