One more session of Dinuba swim lessons

The Dinuba Com- munity Services De- partment is taking signups for one one more two-week sum- mer session of swim lessons scheduled lat- er this month.
Session 4 will run weekdays from Mon- day, July 18, through Friday, July 30, start- ing at 9:20 a.m. and continuing to late af- ternoon at the Dinuba High School aquatics complex. Class ses- sions a half hour each and are scheduled for six different skill lev- els, with beginning levels teaching water exploration and pri- mary skills.
Levels increase for stroke readiness, stroke development, stroke refinement and stroke profi- ciency. The lessons are designed to teach children to swim and learn water safety, no matter the level. Les- sons are conducted by friendly instruc- tors and will increase water awareness and teach valuable life skills.
Class sizes are limited, so it's recom- mended to register early. In addition to the swim lesson ses- sions, the department is offering water aerobics weekdays from 8:15 to 9 a.m. and lap swimming al- so is available for $1 per visit (weekdays, 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.).

Immanuel High junior part of First Tee invite at Pebble Beach on Sept. 20 to 26

Karis Haltom of Clovis is one of just 81 high school golf- ers who will tee it up at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course this fall while representing the select First Tee program.
Haltom, a junior this fall at Immanuel High School in Reedley, will play in the 2021 PURE Insurance Champion- ship Impacting the First Tee the week of Sept. 20 to 26. The event, hosted by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation and tele- vised internationally on the Golf Channel, will be contest- ed at the famous Pebble Beach and Spyglass courses on Fri- day and Saturday, Sept. 24-25.

Another notable accom- plishment for Haltom was her capturing medalist honors in the Girls 14-15 division at the Len Ross Memorial Junior Tournament in Fresno March 29-April 1. The then-soph- omore 78, 76, 82 and 76 for four days at the Copper River Country Club course to win by nine strokes with a 22-over par score of 312.
First Tee is a youth develop- ment organization that teaches life skills and helps kids and teens build their strength of character through golf. The PURE Insurance Champion- ship is one of several national opportunities provided by First Tee Headquarters to encour- age and motivate participants as they progress through the program and toward higher education opportunities.
More than 1,000 teens from First Tee have played in the PURE Insurance Champion- ship, experiencing the once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to meet, play and be mentored by PGA TOUR Champions players and amateurs in the field.
Grants are available for rec programs in Reedley

Three $350 grants are available to non- profit groups who pro- vide recreational activi- ties to Reedley residents or Reedley school sanc- tioned youth groups or activities.
Applications will be available at the begin- ning of October. Dead- line to submit is the third Thursday of October.

Two players left their marks on Sanger High School's career scoring lists in basketball this past spring: Luke Dillon for the Apache boys and Taylor Roth for the SHS girls.
Both lettered four years for the SHS varsity, and were senior
leaders on teams that reached the postseason. Dillon finished as the SHS boys' all-time leader in assists and was number two on the career scoring list, while Roth led the girls in scoring the past two seasons and surpassed 1,000 career points during the 2021 spring season.
Luke Dillon earned team
MVP honors and was first team all-County Metro Athletic Con- ference while leading Sanger to a 10-9 record and a berth in the Central Section Division II semi- finals. Roth also earned all-CMAC honors and was the top scorer for an Apaches team that went 10-12 and reached the Division III sec- tion playoffs.

Benjamin Prado retired this spring as DHS girls basketball coach after six seasons, including a 1-1 abbreviated season in 2021. Prado posted a 71-76 mark, 24-30 in Central Sequoia League play, and guided the Lady Emps to three consecutive winning seasons, topped by an 18-12 record in 2017-2018.
