Don't do it!
If you fire a gun in the air to celebrate the arrival of the new year, you could take someone's life and wind up in prison. That’s the warning from Sanger police chief Silver Rodriguez a couple of days before New Year's Eve.
“When a bullet goes up
in the air, it will definitely come down,” said Rodriguez. “Celebratory gunfire can cause harm to persons and property. It will definitely not be permitted in Sanger. Our officers will respond quickly to put a stop to that kind of dangerous celebration."

weapon in the air could face substantial fines and even time in jail. The time behind bars could be substantial if someone is injured or killed.
Anyone who sees someone firing a weapon recklessly should call 911, said Rodri- guez.
Louie Meza Herald staff report
Louie Meza, a passenger in a car stopped by Sanger police officer Julian Ro-
driguz, was reportedly found to be in possession of a load- ed Glock 9 mm handgun with a high capacity magazine, marijuana and ammunition. (Shown below)
Rodriguz stopped the vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 15 in the 600 block of I Street.
Meza reportedly was on felony probation and is a known gang member.
He was booked into coun- ty jail on various charges.

• 1st place: Johnson Fam- ily from Kerman;
• 2nd place: Amy Sue Long from Coalinga;
• 3rd place: Erin Pearson from Sanger;

Congratulations to all our winners!
MVD is proud of the win- ners because they helped conserve natural resources and keep our landfills from filling up.
Mid Valley Disposal resi-
dents had the chance to win prizes by keeping recyclable and compostable materials out of their trash, and in the correct carts.
On Nov. 17, six contestants were selected in a random drawing.
MVD's team inspected
the recycle and organics (green waste) carts of the six participants for correct re- cycling practices. Carts were judged on a scale of 1-100 percent, based on proper usage (the smaller amount of unaccepted items the better) percentage.
Mid Valley Disposal is a local, privately held recy- cling and waste management company in the heart of California’s Central Valley.
Mid Valley Disposal strives to have an active role in the community by par- ticipating in local events and visiting classrooms around the community to provide recycling education.
