The all-time leading scorer in Dinuba High’s boys basketball program, Josh Magaña, was named the Central Sequoia League’s Most Valuable Player.
Known for his long- range shooting, the 6-feet-2 inch senior finished his ca- reer with 1,427 points. This past season, Magaña put up solid numbers across the board averaging 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game. In an 83-52 win over Mona- che, Magaña made eight 3’s on his way to a 35-point performance.
Senior guards Elias and Isaak Flores were on the second team. Elias finished the season averaging 10 ppg while Isaak averaged 11.
Dinuba, who claimed the CSL crown, finished the season with a 23-7 overall record.
Immanuel’s Winston Williams and Shawn Rod- gers were also on the CSL first team.
Williams was a force for the Eagles in the paint as the 6-4 junior averaged a double-double with 22 ppg and 12 rebounds. Wil-
liams also led the Eagles with 83 blocks. Rodgers gave IHS a formidable 1-2 punch as the junior closed out the year averaging 17 points and 5 boards.
Offensive Player of the Year went to Aaron Blan- cas of Selma and Kings- burg’s Jason Gunn was the Defensive Player of the Year. Johnny Vargas of Selma was named Coach of the Year.
Lady Emperors land two on the CSL first team
Dinuba High’s Yasmine Villareal-Harris averaged seven points and seven rebounds per game as the senior forward captain was tabbed an all-CSL first teamer. Villareal-Harris was joined by teammate, Kailey Lopez. Lopez, a sophomore point guard, led the Lady Emperors in scoring with nine points per game to go along with averaging three steals and rebounds. Dinuba ended its season with a 16-13 re- cord and 8-4 in CSL play while making the playoffs.
Immanuel’s Sammie Green was on the CSL first team. The junior forward averaged 15 points per game for the Lady Eagles.

Five members of Reedley High’s league champions — led by of- fensive and defensive Most Valuable Players Phillip Rico and Junior Elizondo — were voted to the all-North Yosem- ite League first team by league coaches.
Senior striker Rico — who set a school single season scoring record with 40 goals while add- ing 14 assists — and se- nior defender Elizondo were two major rea- sons the Pirates posted a 20-2-6 season record, 9-1 in league. The team reached the Central Sec- tion Division 1 quarter- finals, dropping a 2-1 de- cision to eventual cham- pion Central High.
Rico and Elizondo were joined on the first team by senior midfield- er Robert Alcantar (11 goals, 11 assists), junior forward Isaac Cardenas (seven goals, four as- sists) and senior forward
Robert Cardenas (nine goals, seven assists).
Rico, who broke cur- rent professional player Anthony Velarde’s goals record at RHS, is still weighing his collegiate playing offers. Elizondo and Alcantar will play for Fresno City College this fall while second team all-NYL selection Tomas Alvarez (four goals, 15 assists) will play for College of the Sequoias in Visalia.
Reedley High’s girls soccer team, which weathered a rash of in- juries while finishing fourth in the NYL in 2019-2020, had two first- team selections, sopho- mores Celeste Castillo and Diana Rico. Castillo was a defensive special- ist while forward Rico was one of the team’s scoring leaders.
The Pirate girls (6-17- 5 overall) finished 4-3-3 in league matches be- fore dropping a 2-0 deci- sion to Selma High in a Division 3 first round matchup.
Coach of the Year went to Paul Romig of Selma. The Lady Bears swept the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards
behind Clarissa Moreno and Audry Gonzalez. De- fensive Player of the Year was Central Valley Chris- tians’ Kendal Vander Tuig.

Two Sanger High bas- ketball players are among the first teams of the 2019- 20 All-CMAC teams.
Junior guard Jonathan Dillon was the lone Sanger boys basketball player to make the all-league first team, joining Jaden Geron of San Joaquin Memorial, Obadiah Curtis of Edison, Omarion Thomas-Marshal of Bullard, Avery Johnson of Edison and Tyric Herod of Bullard.
Joseph Hunter of San Joaquin Memorial was named the league’s Most Valuable Player while his coach, Brad Roznovsky was named Coach of the Year.
The Apaches' varsity boys basketball team fin- ished with a 17-14 over- all record and lost in the semifinals to eventual Div. 3 champion Bakersfield Christian.
Making the first team for the girls’ all-league was Sanger High sophomore Elise LeBeau, who ran point guard for the Lady Apaches this past season.
She joins Jada Heights (Edison), Sarah Garret, Meadow Roland (both of SJM), Cathy Figueroa (Madera) and Lexi Eller (Madera South).
Macie James of San Joa- quin Memorial was named the league’s MVP. Panther’s coach Cory Fischer was named Coach of the Year.

Reedley High sophomore Miah Paz was nominated from the Central Section for CalHiSports all-state basketball recognition. Despite missing a portion of the season with a concussion, Paz averaged 20 points per game while helping lead the Pirates to a 19-11 record in 2019-2020.

Reedley High sopho- more Miah Paz was one of 54 Central Section players nominated for future rec- ognition to CalHiSports’ 40th annual all-state teams for girls basketball.
The longtime high school publication an- nounced the initial list of nominees on March 24. The list of nominees will be pared down at a future date.
CalHiSports will choose 10 players each to all-state first, second and third teams. Players also will be honored from each of the California Interscholastic Federation state divisions.
Paz is a nominee for the all-state underclass team which will consist of at least 20 juniors, 15 sopho-
mores and 10 freshman. CalHiSports said the num- ber can fluctuate, depend- ing on the pool of players involved.
Paz led the Pirates in scoring for the second straight year, averaging about 20 points per game as RHS posted a 19-11 record and reached the Central Section Division 4 quarterfinals. She missed the latter half of league play with a concussion, but returned in time to lead Reedley in scoring in a home playoff victory over Mira Monte High from Ba- kersfield.
