Reedley College, FPU to team up on program to help students earn degrees

The road to a bach- elor’s degree is getting shorter for some Cen- tral Valley students thanks to a partnership between Fresno Pacific University and Reedley College.
The university and college announced on Nov. 12 that FPU will begin offering classes leading to a bachelor of arts in business through its degree completion (DC) program at Reed- ley College in January 2020. DC classes are a proven way to help adult students with some college credit finish their bachelor’s degree while balanc- ing work and family commitments. Classes meet one evening a week and groups of

Rachel T. Arias
Rachel T. Arias of Dinuba died Nov. 7. She was 85.
Mrs. Arias worked as a principal's secre- tary.
She is survived by two sons, one daughter, two sisters, 10 grand- children and 24 great- grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Di- nuba. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at St. Catherine's Church.

Alfred Ramirez Diaz of Cutler died Nov. 7. He was 58.
Mr. Diaz worked as a builder.

A ribbon cutting cer- emony was held Nov. 8 at the new Sanger Vet- erans Memorial Plaza, fittingly, just days be- fore the nation cele- brated Veterans Day.
The park, which has been in the making for over a decade, sits on the west side of Sanger, at the northeast corner of Jensen and Indianola avenues.
The first phase of the project, which con- sists of a play area, public bathrooms, a walking path and land- scaping, was just re- cently completed.
“But this park is really about service,” said Sanger City Man- ager Tim Chapa. “As this park is used by the citizens of Sanger it is important that we re- member the service of our Veterans.”

city council authorized the $1.2 million to com- plete the first phase of the project. The next phase will consist of a memorial Veterans monument, addition- al walking paths and landscaping, along with sports fields, lighting and a pavilion.
The funding for the second phase will come from the fundraising efforts by the Sanger VAC and the Veter- ans Network as well as grant efforts by the city.

author, Mark Arax, in a special speaking en- gagement at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Living Word Fellowship in Dinuba.
Arax will be discuss-
ing his latest book “The Dreamt Land: Chasing Water and Dust Across California”.
Historical society member, Chris Ka- pheim, said the event is free and is a perfect way for the community to get engaged.
“He’s a great story teller,” Kapheim said. “He interviews local people to
tie in points of view.” There will be a Q & A session for the public and books will be avail-
able for purchase. Arax’s other book,
“The Kings of Cali- fornia”, won several awards and was named a top book of 2004 by the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.
