The Apache's JV team rolled over Lem- oore 42-0.
“I’ll be taking a look at video of the Paso Ro- bles team during our bye week. I don’t know much
about them right now,” said coach Jorge Pena. He was probably think- ing more about getting his walking wounded warriors back to game condition than about the 1-3 Bearcats who will visit Tom Flores Stadium for the first time on Sept. 27. The Apaches beat the Bearcats 27-24 last year in Paso Robles.

Reedley High’s girls tennis team improved to 5-2 in non-league matches with a 9-0 sweep of city rival Immanuel High on Sept. 11.
Leading the way for the Pirates were their top two singles players, Brianna Enriquez and Victoria Jaime. The pair also were instrumental in a 5-4 victory on the road against Porterville on Sept. 3.

River Walker and a 5-yard scoring pass from Payton Mayer to Andy Pierre- Antoine.
Less than four minutes into the contest, Reedley opened the scoring on a 1-yard run by Jamon Chambers before an 11-yard touchdown pass from Bubba Hickson to River Walker.
A 26-yard field goal by
Panthers, Jessica Lemus also picked up a singles victory while Enriquez and Jaime combined to win in No. 1 doubles. The Pirates’ No. 3 doubles team of Adeline Villar- real and Zuheidy Del Rio Contreras also picked up an important victory.
Reedley High opens the first round of North Yosemite League play with a 3 p.m. road match against Fresno High. The Pirates then host Roos- evelt on Tuesday, Sept. 24, in a 3 p.m. start.
Jorge Rosales increased the lead to 17-0 with seven minutes and 49 seconds left in the first half. Rosales also made all five of his extra point kicks.
Jonathan Perryman scored the final Tiger touchdown.
Defensively, Okiki Olorunfunmi (Clovis) had a key interception for Reedley. Yuba’s only touchdown came with just over four minutes left in the contest.

Clinging to a six-point halftime lead against vis- iting Mendota on Sept. 13, the Reedley High football team were challenged by head coach Tony Gates.
“To be honest, in the locker room I challenged them to put up 21 points in the second half,” Gates said. “I flat out told them, ‘you are way better than six-nothing against Men- dota.’ I wanted them to put up 21.”
They Pirates did that, and then some. After the Aztecs took a brief 7-6 lead on a short touchdown pass, Reedley (2-2) took control of the game with 24 unanswered points on its way to a 30-15 victory. The flurry included a safe- ty by a defensive unit that limited Mendota to 197 to- tal yards.
Senior quarterback Gannon Gabaldon lit the fire offensively, rush- ing for 96 yards and two touchdowns — including a 59-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter — while completing 9 of 12 passes for 117 yards and two TDs.
“Gannon had just an amazing game, he took over,” Gates said. “I couldn’t be more proud of him. He made the right reads on our running game, ran the ball hard and wouldn’t be denied. He threw some balls on target and just hung in there. He showed great leadership.”
Danny Cortez put the Pirates ahead to stay with a 6-yard TD reception from Gabaldon in the third quar- ter, and Cortez added a two- point run to make it 14-7.
Early in the fourth, Ga- baldon scored on a 16-yard run to increase the lead to 20-7 after a failed two- point try, and the lead grew to 15 points when Cortez tackled Mendota running back Luis Ochoa in his own end zone. Gab- aldon then put the finish- ing touches on the scoring outburst with a 59-yard dash.
Gates said he was proud of his defensive staff for their preparation against the Aztecs.
“They put together a great game plan. And they really got the kids prepared. We just had all the answers,” he said.
That included a goal-
line stand at the end of the first half that preserved the 6-0 lead after Mendota got inside the 5-yard-line on a catch by Ochoa. The Pirates’ defense stuffed a pair of inside runs, and senior linebacker Kyle Doi tracked down quarterback Justin Silva for a loss on a fourth down run around left end in the closing sec- onds.
Gabaldon and Michael Rios combined for the on- ly touchdown in the first half, a 27-yard hookup that mirrored the Pirates’ first score in a loss to Dinuba a week earlier. In the second half, Gabaldon connected with Cortez for Reedley’s second touchdown, and he also had a 30-yard hookup to Javier Carmona as RHS picked up 176 of its 246 to- tal yards in the closing 24 minutes.
Reedley limited Men- dota to 57 rushing yards on the night, carried by strong performances from defensive lineman Gabriel Badilla and linebacker Doi.
The game capped off a marathon day for RHS players, who came to cam- pus before 5 a.m. for a live televised rally in the gym put on by ABC 30.
“We’re used to get- ting here kind of early in the morning anyway, and I wanted to support the school and support build- ing the program,” Gates said. He said players took an hour nap in the weight room on Friday afternoon to get recharged.
“I’d say 95 percent of the guys took advantage of it,” he said.
The Pirates have a bye this week, returning to action on Friday, Sept. 27, against Washington Union. The Panthers (3-1) went on the road to hand Selma its first loss of the season by a 42-32 score on Sept. 13.
“It feels a little early tohaveabyeweektome because we were getting into a rhythm,” Gates said. “But it gives us a couple of weeks to prepare for a really good Washington Union team. They’ve had some quality wins, and they no doubt are up there with Sanger and Dinuba this year as the best teams we’ll see.”
In the junior varsity contest, Reedley dropped to 0-3 after giving up the game’s lone score in the final minute of a 6-0 loss to Mendota.
