FRESNO PACIFIC Sunbirds' men fall in home opener
A late run by visiting
Cal State East Bay spoiled Fresno Pacific's men's basketball home opener on Nov. 17. The visiting Pioneers used a decisive 12-3 run in the second half to come from behind for a 73-66 victory at the FPU Special Events Center.
The Sunbirds (1-2) rode the strength of nine points from Adrian An- tunez to take a 39-33 half- time lead. But the visitors stormed out of the gates to start the second half with a 15-0 run.
Immanuel High School product Nate Kendricks — who had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting — buried a three-pointer to aid a Sun- bird run that gave them a 52-50 lead with eight min- utes remaining. Elijah HIll finished with a team-high 15 points for FPU while CS East Bay's Nai Carlisle led all scorers with 16 points.
Fresno Pacific had a scheduled game at Stan- islaus State on Nov. 21, but smoke from the wildfires caused the game to be postponed until a future date.
The next scheduled game for FPU is Thurs- day, Nov. 29, in Honolulu, Hawaii against Chami- nade.

The two teams combined for 1,048 yards of total offense, 525 by the Tigers. Reedley quarterback Randall Johnson completed 19 of 28 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns, giving the Golden Coast Conference offen- sive player of the year 2,832 passing yards and 28 touchdown passes. Reedley took a 27-21 lead into the halftime locker room. The second quarter featured three touchdowns in a span of just 33 seconds. Reedley an- swered 15 seconds later on a 60-yard touch- down pass from Johnson to sophomore Brita- vious Garcia (Augusta, Ga.). Garcia sped away from a De Anza tackler at the Don 45 en route to the end zone.
After a holding penalty moved the Dons to their own 13, De Anza answered with an 87-yard scoring pass from Andrade to Cort- land Brooks at the 9:12 mark.
Reedley used a double pass play to take the lead as wide receiver Mason Layton connected with Daniel Baca for a 30-yard score with 6:37 left in the half.
Only three of the seven scheduled North- ern California playoff games were played due to poor air quality from the Camp Fire in Butte County. One game is scheduled for this Satur- day, Nov. 24, while three others are scheduled

for Saturday, Dec. 1.
“We got some bad breaks,” said Golden
Coast Conference coach of the Year Eric Mar- ty. “We’ve got to make the plays. We fumbled the ball twice in the fourth quarter and that’s how you lose football games.”
The coach said it was all really unfortu- nate. “There were the things we’ve done all year, take care of the ball and play good spe- cial teams. There were those mistakes and we didn’t get any help down the stretch.”
“I’m really proud of the season our guys have had,” added Marty. “We were a good enough team to win this game. We just couldn’t finish it.”
