Reedley police add new dispatcher

Four candidates chal- lenging Rep. Devin Nunes this year for the 22nd Con- gressional District seat will appear at a community fo- rum Thursday, Feb. 15, at Reedley College.
The forum, presented by United Valley Civics is called “Issues in 22.” It will befrom7to8:30p.m.isin the college’s Forum Hall next to the east parking lot. Organizers say the free forum is for candidates to speak about issues impor- tant to the district, which includes Reedley.

Richard C. Herrera of Parlier died Feb. 2. He was
79.
Mr. Herrera worked as

Rosa Lopez of Reedley died Feb. 8. She was 66.

Nunes has been in the crossfire for his actions regarding alleged Russian involvement with the 2016 presidential election. Last December, he was cleared of allegations that he ille- gally disclosed classified in- formation. This year, he has been the subject of criticism and support for releasing a controversial memorandum.
Nunes and Andrew Janz, the Democratic challenger who has raised the most mon- ey, will miss the forum be- cause of scheduling conflicts.

Tiffany Gonzalez was sworn in as a Reedley Police De- partment dispatcher on Feb. 7 during a ceremony in the Reedley City Council chambers. The Reedley native was hired from among 40 applicants for the position.“This is about you, Tiffany, and us welcoming you to our family,” Chief Joe Garza told Gonzalez. After the swearing in and badge-pinning ceremonies, Gonzalez was presented with a book,“Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement,” and a copy of the Bible.

Monte A Lewis Jr.
January 27, 1973 - February 3, 2018
Monte A Lewis Jr, a life- long resident of Reedley, CA, died unexpectedly on February 3, 2018 at the age of 45.
Monte is survived by his children; Montana and Melody, his father Monte Sr, his sister Tris, his brother Scott, and many many niec- es, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He is predeceased by his grand- parents, his mother Wilma, and his 2nd wife Selena.
Monte was born in Dinuba on January 27, 1973 to Wilma
and Monte Lewis Sr. Monte was most proud of his job at Gar Tootelian. He worked there for about 14 years and was very fond of the company and his coworkers. He had two daughters from his rst wife, and two step-daughters from his second. Monte loved his daughters very much and was very proud of their achievements. He enjoyed movies, music, and the beach. He enjoyed doing handy work, and loved working outside in the yard, and wasn’t afraid to do dishes. He loved to be around his family and friends, this was the foundation of his happiness. Friends have described him as “fun, cool, a good man with honor, principles, and character.”
He was a spiritual man and believed in God wholeheartedly.
He would o en be involved in church activities. He knew that when he died he would be with his savior, Jesus Christ.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24 at the Reedley Evangelical Free Church at 314 W Manning Ave in Reedley CA. Pastor Ernie will of ciate and Michelle Smith will read a Eulogy. Lunch will follow. Flowers, and condolences may be offered at the church.

Debra Kay Luallen of Reedley, 63 passed away on January 30, 2018.
She was formerly employed by Dr. Jacob H. Friesen, e U.S. Postal Service and Mainstreet Cafe. She was preceded in death by her father Ray Gann and
brothers Mark and Je Gann.
She is survived by her son Shawn Luallen and daughter
Shelly Malding; grandchildren Nathan Davis and Dustin Malding; Mother Sally Krause and step-father Burt Krause; step-mother Laura Gann; sisters Lora Gann Bellefeuille and Lisa Gann; brother Kerry Krause.
Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by families and friends.

“I get to prune but also get to give reasons to talk about what I’m doing,” she said. “This is different than any other competition that I’ve been involved with.”
