ELECTION Continued from page A1
president-elect Joe Biden while 45.11 percent (162,438) voted for President Donald Trump as of Friday, Nov. 13.
Those numbers were slightly dif- ferent in Tulare County, however, with the incumbent president receiving the majority of the over 146,000 bal- lots cast. Trump received 76,315 votes (just over 52 percent) of the votes from Tulare County voters, compared to 65,056 for Biden as of Nov. 13.
The voter turnout in Tulare County also was a milestone, with more thab 73 percent of registered voters casting their ballots this November.
But the ballots were much closer in the 21st and 22nd US Congressional races. With nearly 58,000 ballots (near- ly 71.5 percent of eligible voters), the race between current congressman TJ Cox and challenger, and former US Congressman, David G. Valadao was tight among Fresno County vot- ers. Valadao received a slightly larger portion of the votes with 29,728 (51.44 percent), while Cox received 27,943 (or 48.45 percent).
Cox received just 21 more votes than Valadao in Tulare County bal-
lots, with 2,753 for Cox and 2,732 for Valadao.
Congressman Devin Nunes was the favored in Tulare County over chal- lenger Phil Arballo, receiving over 55 percent of the vote with 61,781 com- pared to just 48,392.
Nunes’ numbers were almost as good in ballots cast in Fresno County, as he received just over 53 percent of the vote with 107,131 votes compared to 94,177 votes for Arballo (or 46.78 percent).
In the California State Assembly races, Republican incumbent Devon Mathis received the majority of Tulare County votes with 74,269 compared to 61,879 for Democratic challenger Drew Phelps for the 26th Assembly seat. Mathis’ total votes accounted for nearly 52 percent of Tulare County votes.
The picture was not the same in Fresno County and the 31st Assem- bly where nearly 62 percent of voters (76,102) favored Democratic incum- bent Joaquin Arambula over Repub- lican challenger Fernando Banuelos, who received 46,933 votes.
Nearly 67 percent of registered Fresno County voters voted in the 2016 general election.
