“The hill got me.”
Padilla and company will be out at
the same course next Thursday at the Central Section Championships. Padilla is hoping for a better performance and to attain a goal time-wise.
“Set a PR and break 16 [minutes],” he said.
Nicolas Amezola placed fifth overall in 18:21.40 and Jaime Soto was seventh in 18:50.40. Diego Estrada crossed the finish line in a time of 19:17.20 for 12th and Javen Hernandez was five seconds back finishing in 15th place while Richard Chaves was 24th in 20:25.50.
The varsity girls team also won the team title with 37 points over Hanford West’s 54. Just a few weeks ago, the Emperors edged the Huskies in a CSL cluster meet.
That wasn’t the case on Tuesday as Dinuba dominated, placing three runners in the top 5.
Leading the charge was Jackie Delgado, who finished third with a time of 21:04.80. Right behind her was Luz Diaz (21:30.10) and Jasmine Jorge (21:39.60). Luzmi Ramirez placed 12th overall in 22:59.20 and Ali Ontiveros was one place behind in a time of 23:06.30.
“All our team did great,” Delgado

The cross country course at Woodward Park may have been a little dry and dusty but for Dinuba High runner Jonathan Padilla it was almost perfect.
Well, with the exception of the second mile of the 5,000 meter race as the senior struggled a bit before closing out the Central Sequoia League cross country championships with a win Tuesday afternoon. Padilla covered the course in 17 minutes, 12.90 seconds, claiming the individual crown well ahead of runner up Garrin Schaap of Central Valley Christian (17:33.00).
As a team, the Emperors defended their title with 40 points while Hanford West (73) and Central Valley Christian (75), were second and third.
Padilla led from start to finish but admitted he was feeling fatigued with a mile to go.
“I was a little bit tired,” Padilla said.

The Dinuba High girls volleyball team had a memorable season end with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Yosemite in a Central Section Division III semifinal on Nov. 1 in Oakhurst.
The Emperors won nine more matches than last year finishing with a 22-11 overall record, while making one of the deepest postseason runs in recent memory.
“Yosemite was a tough night to end on,” stated coach Michele Burner. “We didn’t play badly, we didn’t play exceptional. We needed to play well or be exceptional to give Yosemite a run. They were the better team that day.”
The Badgers went on to win the Central Section crown with a 3-2 win over Mission Oak on Saturday.
Dinuba opened the playoffs with impressive 3-1 wins at home over Pioneer Valley and Tulare Western before running into a buzz saw in Oakhurst.
“We had a history making season. We were able to breathe rare Dinuba female athletics air for a while and play a little volleyball in November!” stated Burner. “That’s always the goal because that means you’re making a decent playoff run. I’m so proud of the ladies the way that they worked together to overcome some major obstacles throughout our season. I couldn’t be more excited for them that they were able to see some of the fruits of their work.”

The Orosi High football team’s season ended on a tough note as the Cardinals dropped their Central Section Division VI playoff opener against visiting Sierra Pacific, 28-14, Friday night in Orosi.
The Cardinals finished the season with a 7-4 overall record while the Golden Bears advanced to play Orange Cove High.
Orosi had an uphill battle against Sierra Pacific, who turned the tables on the Cardinals after losing in the playoffs last year, scoring a touchdown in each quarter.
On the flip side, the Cardinals were without the services of fullback/ linebacker Freddi Arciga, who suffered an injury midway through the first quarter while making a tackle. The loss of Arciga was a big blow as the Cardinals’ running game was held in check by the Golden Bears’ defense. Leading rusher, Jerry Huerta, was also kept in check, finishing with 92 yards on 19 carries.
“I knew it was going to be a tough game with the caliber of athletes they had,” said White. “We moved the ball great the first drive with Freddi in there.”
White called Arciga “the heart and soul of our team.”

A Sierra Pacific running back is tackled by a host of Cardinals defenders during the first half of Friday’s Division VI playoff game. The Golden Bears posted a 28-14 win over Orosi to advance into the quarterfinals.
“When he got hurt it definitely affected us both offensively and defensively. He’s our middle linebacker and fullback for Jerry. Over the course of the game they wore us down and ultimately won.”
Orosi got out quick, scoring on its opening possession with a quick 74-yard four-play drive for the game’s
first TD. The Cardinals’ ground game was moving the ball as Ismael Perez had a 17 yard run, followed by an eight yard run by Arciga and an 11 yard scamper by Huerta. Then quarterback Evan Lara connected on a 37-yard TD pass play to Chris Huerta.
Sierra Pacific countered with a 10-play, 60-yard drive punctuated by
16-yard catch-and-run from QB Chad Leslie to running back Gavin Gamble, tying the game at 7.
With the ball at the 23-yard line, the Cardinals went to work again driving to Sierra Pacific’s 26 yard line. But the Golden Bears’ defense tightened up recording consecutive sacks and in the
