Miss and love
you very much.
Love Mom, Dad, Sisters and Brothers.
Pearl Jessen Wallin of Sanger was born on October 21, 1919, to Lauritz and Tina Jessen. She was a loving wife, mother, grand- mother, sister, aunt, and friend. In a very special way, her vibrant personality and charisma touched all who met and knew her. On Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the age of 99, Pearl went to join her beloved husband and the love of her life, Charles O. Wallin,
in heaven.
Pearl was raised in Fresno County, attended local elementary
schools, and graduated from Reedley High School. On May 17, 1942, Pearl married Charles O. Wallin. They were married for 51 years at the time of his death on January 7, 1994. Pearl was active in her community through her involvement in PTA, school sports, and the Sequoia Guild. In addition, Charles and she were charter members of the Belmont Country Club where Charles actively participated
in golf and both participated in social events for many years.
When Pearl was in her 60’s, she embarked on a new journey as a golfer at Belmont
Country Club where she developed a reputation and passion for the game. After telling everybody “Why would I chase a white ball around a cow pasture?” she proceeded to play faithfully for the next 30 years. Her competitive nature quickly surfaced and she never turned down an opportunity to engage in an afternoon of golf with her many friends at the Country Club.
Pearl loved playing card games or any other game for that matter! She eventually took up the games of gin and bridge, playing weekly with her friends at Belmont Coun- try Club and at family gatherings with her grandchildren. She had a great time bragging of her winnings of 25 cents and was definitely sad when she lost.
Pearl was a woman of many talents. Among them, she designed and patiently hand- stitched hundreds of Christmas ornaments each year that she gave as gifts to her family and friends. Each ornament was adorned with sequins, beads, and a strand of pearls which was the trademark for her name. She also took joy in making other Christmas decorations as well as embroidering unique kitchen towels.
Pearl is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Charles & Marilyn Wallin of Sanger and Lawrence & Barbara Wallin of Rochester, Washington. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren: Mark Wallin, Christopher Wallin, Brian Wallin, Garrett Wallin, Larry Calandra, Michael Calandra, Scott Calandra, Jonathon Calandra, Michelle Robertson, and Judith-Ann Madrugas as well as their families including 22 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Wallin’s Sanger Funeral Home in Sanger on Thursday, De- cember 13, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A Chapel Service will be held at Wallin’s Sanger Funeral Home on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:30 AM with interment to follow at Sanger Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to Terry’s House, C/O Community Medical Founda- tion, 1530 E. Shaw Avenue, Suite 106, Fresno, CA 93710.
Services are under the direction of Wallin’s Sanger Funeral Home, 1524 9th Street, Sanger, CA 93657.
