Apaches tab Logue as new football coach
Former SHS assistant
compiled 48-24 record in
seven seasons at Selma
ington Union. That sea- son ended in a 42-29 loss to Highland-Palmdale in the state 4-AA playoffs.
Selma went 2-2 in 2020 (spring 2021) and 2-5 this fall, and was hit particularly hard by CO- VID-19 which cost the team three games they were unable to make up. Logue's Bears post- ed eight win seasons in 2015 and 2017.
Logue spent eight seasons as part of a long- time staff of coaches at Sanger High under Chuck Shidan. He was a popular coach with his players,
Logue is part of a pro- lific football family, as his father, Terry Logue, has won more than 250 games at coach with most of the time spent at Bear River High School in Grass Valley in Northern California. His brother, Zach Logue, al- so is a high school coach.

Sanger High School didn't need long — and didn't have to look too far–tonameanewhead varsity football coach.
On Dec. 17, the school announced the hiring of Matt Logue, a former longtime Apaches assis- tant and coach the past seven seasons at Selma High. He replaces Jorge Peña, who announced his retirement on Dec. 9 af- ter five seasons as SHS head coach and 33 sea- sons with the program.
In a brief statement released by the school, SHS athletic director Brian Penner said "I am pleased to announce that Matt Logue has ac-
cepted the position of head coach of the Sanger High School football pro- gram." Penner also said "We are thrilled that he is returning to Sanger. We will see you at Tom Flores Stadium in Au- gust. Here come the Apaches!"
Logue posted a 48- 24 record and two Cen- tral Section Division IV crowns during seven sea- sons at Selma High, with the highlight being a 13-1 record and section cham- pionship in 2016. The Bears won 13 straight, routing Chowchilla by a 39-7 score in the section final. The magical season ended the following week in the Division 4-AA state playoffs with a one-point loss against Bakersfield

Logue, who went 48-24 and won a section title while head coach at Selma High, is returning to Sanger as head coach. Logue succeeds Jorge Pena, who resigned earlier this month after 33 seasons at SHS including a 34-18 mark in five seasons as head coach.
