Positive coronavirus cases took an unsettling jump early this week in the latest numbers released by Fresno and Tulare Counties, af- ter much of the week seemed to show a de- crease in active cases.
Fresno County's new daily cases per 100,000 people jumped from 38.2 to 41.3 in a single day as of the Sept. 21 numbers. Deaths for the week rose by 36, to 1,889, while hospi- talizations jumped by 11 in one day but were slightly lower for the week.
In Tulare County, the increase was more jarring. Active cases for the week were up by 302, but right up un-
til the Sept. 21 report had been down by near- ly 300. The latest re- leased showed a jump of 578 active cases, 889 overall.
Dinuba had its to- tal COVID cases since the pandemic began in March 2020 increase by 120 in a week's period ending Sept. 21. While the annual Dinuba Raisin Day Festival is returning this year, or- ganizers are asking at- tendees to wear masks — even those who are vaccinated — to help limit potential spread of the virus. Positive cases also took a jump in Orosi, Cutler, Traver and rural county areas near Reedley and Or- ange Cove.
