Measure C renewal process centers on public involvement
Contributed
Fresno County Transpor- tation Authority (FCTA) and Fresno Council of Governments (Fresno COG) have started the process of developing a Mea- sure C renewal expenditure plan in preparation for public vote in the November 2022 Fresno County election.
Fresno COG and FCTA are the partnering agencies
overseeing the renewal ef- fort, with focused attention on a public-driven process de- signed to solicit feedback on what Fresno County residents believe is important to include in the Measure C renewal; di- rectly and through participat- ing committees, businesses, elected officials and more.
Measure C has a 35-year- long history in the region funding transportation im-
provements throughout Fres- no County and was reaffirmed by voters in 2006 – passing with 78 percent of the vote. The half-cent sales tax will sunset in 2027, and will have funded close to $2 billion for Fresno County highway and road improvements, public transit programs and proj- ects, airport improvements, pedestrian facilities and ADA improvements, bike lanes
and trails, air quality and en- vironmental enhancement programs, and services like Senior Scrip, which provides transportation for seniors.
As a key component of the Measure C Renewal for 2022, Fresno COG and FCTA have prioritized opportunities for Fresno County residents to become active participants in the drafting process. The public can get involved by:
requesting a presentation at their local community and service groups; engaging Measure C representatives at community events (pending COVID-19 guidelines); calling the Measure C Hotline at (559) 600-0413; following FCTA and Fresno COG on social media; signing-up to receive e-mail notifications at MeasureC.com;
