vehicle, Pickering grabbed the con- sole, threw the counterfeit money at the victim and drove away.
In a desperate attempt to hold onto his merchandise, the victim grabbed the console and was sub- sequently dragged from Picker- ing’s car as a result.
Aleman credited the hard work of his detectives for iden- tifying and locating Pickering quickly and arresting him without incident.
“Our detective,
Cesar Cardenas real-
ized that this was an
Offer Up transaction
and he was able to ob-
tain the suspect’s profile,” he said.
According to their website, Of- fer Up is a mobile marketplace where buyers and sellers can meet to for the purchase and sales of items and will help law enforce- ment, to ensure the community continues to be a trusted place to do business, and will be diligent in assisting with external criminal in- vestigations.
Detectives were able to contact Offer Up and obtained a search warrant for Pickering’s profile and learned he is a resident of Hanford. He was also well known to Hanford Police.
Police also discovered that Pick- ering had taken the stolen gaming console and gifted it to his young son the day of the robbery.
Pickering has been charged with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon and had an out- standing warrant at the time of his arrest. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail.
Offer Up recommends anyone buying or selling items on their site to do so in a public place like a shopping center or coffee shop. For high value items, they recom- mend meeting at their local police station.

lege High School returned to campus for instruction.
Under KCUSD's hybrid model, Team A students attend Monday, Thursday and assigned Wednesdays while Team B stu- dents attend Tuesday, Friday and assigned Wednesdays. High school students and staff mem- bers will follow the district's safety protocols including wear- ing masks, following social dis- tancing guidelines, washing and/ or sanitizing hands frequently and completing a daily health screening.
High school students in the district have been participat- ing in distance education only for the most part since the pan- demic shut down campuses in March 2020.
At Sanger Unified, phased re- opening on campuses for grades K-12 is under way, after delaying a planned return to the classroom in January because of Fresno County Department of Health guidelines instituted at the time.
On Feb. 18, Sanger High School hosted its first athletic event since last year's pandemic hit when a swim meet was held at the Aquatics Complex.
In Tulare County, meanwhile, Dinuba Unified School Dis- trict has confirmed that they finally are able to return tran- sitional kindergarten (TK) to sixth-grade students back to in- person learning using a hybrid schedule. Start dates for these new schedules are Thursday, March 4, for TK-2 and Tuesday, March 9, for grades 3-6.
The hybrid schedule will allow the classrooms to physi- cally space students, and dis- tance learning continues to be offered. Because of longtime high infection rates in Tulare County, Dinuba has been on distance learning at all grade levels since the pandemic shut down campuses last year.
The Cutler-Orosi Unified School District is continuing dis- tance learning at this time and will weigh options at returning to in-class instruction when county COVID-19 restrictions ease.
