Dinuba Avenue reopens to thru traffic after long closure
Jon Earnest / The Exponent

After more than 10 weeks of construction, motorists in south Reedley can drive both directions on East Dinuba Avenue between the train tracks and East Avenue.
Late afternoon on May 3, con- struction crews removed the final roadblocks to signify that work had finished. Traffic again was flowing along Dinuba Avenue in time for the weekend of Street Faire.
The project was to rebuild the pavement and do underground work on the block-long area. The roadway closed on Feb. 19, forcing drivers to detour around the area.
Motorists wishing to go east on Dinuba were detoured north on I Street then east on 13th Street, turning back south on G Street and continuing down to the intersection of Dinuba and East (where work
earlier had been done). Drivers wishing to go west were redirected in the operate directions starting at East and Dinuba.
During the construction, nearby businesses did their best to maintain normal operations. These business- es were Air-O-Fan Products, David Road Oil and Hamilton Cold Storage.
According to John Robertson, city engineer, rapid flashing bea- cons to be installed adjacent to the Rails to Trail Parkway crossing at Dinuba Avenue are on order. In the interim, pedestrians and cyclists traveling along the parkway are urged to use extra caution in cross- ing the roadway.
The city was able to continue nor- mal trash collection services to busi- nesses and areas surrounding the project. Mail delivery also was able to continue relatively normal operations.
The project resulted in an in- crease of traffic tie-ups along 13th
Street between I and G streets. Long lines of vehicles during the morning and afternoon commutes backed up at the four-way stop in- tersection of G and 13th, and traf- fic backups also were noted at the stoplight of I and 13th.
One other road project resulting in detours is expected to be finished by the end of the week. The recon- struction of the east intersection of Olson and South Reed avenues, south of Immanuel High School, is scheduled to pour concrete around the new crosswalk area on Thurs- day, May 9.
Russ Robertson, Reedley’s pub- lic works director, said that bar- ring unexpected delays the paving should be completed on May 9 and the road should be opened on Fri- day, May 10. While the intersection has been closed, traffic on Olson has been diverted south to Hunts- man Avenue.
